Mystery Reader…Revealed!

somethingfromA big thank you to Luca F’s mom for coming into our class to be our latest mystery reader last week! Luca’s mom read a book called Something From Nothing.

This book has been around for a long time…over 20 years! It’s based on a Yiddish folktale called Joseph’s Overcoat.

It’s about a boy named Joseph whose grandfather made him a blanket when he was a baby but eventually it gets worn out. Joseph’s mother keeps telling him to throw it out, but it gets made into a variety of other things such as a vest, tie, button, and more. Read the book to find out what happens when Joseph loses the smallest item made from what’s left of his keepsake.  Is it possible to make something from nothing?

The illustrations are whimsical and the little mice under the floor boards at the bottom of each page are a fun addition to the story. If you’ve never read the book, check it out at your nearest library! You won’t regret it!
