The Winter Olympics is one of the most important events of the year.  It is when all the best athletes [from pretty much every country] come to compete in lots of different events to see who is the best.

The events in the Winter Olympics are Luge, Skeleton, Ice Hockey, Freestyle skiing, Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Curling, Figure Skating, Snowboarding, Skiing Cross-Country, Ski Cross, skiing alpline, Speed Skating, Ski Jumping, and Skiing-Nordic Combined.

The first Winter Olympics were in Chamonix, France in 1924.  At that time there were only a few sports you could compete in so it would be very hard to make the team.  Did you know that there were only 12 country’s in the first Winter Olympics?  That’s crazy!  There have been 23 Winter Olympics games hosted by 18 different cities.

If you have been watching the 2014 Winter Olympics Germany has won the most gold medals[5] but, Norway has won the most medals with 12.

Who do you think will win the most medals in the 2014 Winter Olympics?
