Kindness

Being kind is very simple. Most of the time it will take less than a second. You could say hi or good morning to someone, or you could simply compliment someone on how they look. You could even just smile. The word kindness means the quality of being friendly, generous, and a considerate person.

  • Friendly=kind and pleasant
  • Generous= is to give up something of yours
  • Considerate=careful not to cause inconvenience or hurt to others

If you just follow those 3 actions you will be on your way to being the kindest person yet to be know-en  of yet in the whole wide world.

Anti- bullying

Yesterday our special guest Leroy helped us talk about bullying and micro aggressions.  There was a lot of teaching and told us a few websites to visit.  The first one is www.lusocentre.org and the second one is www.1000acts.ca.  All of us are God’s creation and we should not be treated badly.  However we look like or however we act like is our personality and we should not be called names.

Here are a few questions to answer.

Have you ever bullied someone?

Did you apologize to them?

Were you ever bullied?

Has God help you solve the problem?

Has a friend help you solve the problem?

Did the bully stop bullying you?

Please do not forget to comment and say uplifting comments.

Mr. Hibbert Visits Us

IMG_4937Mr. Leory Hibbert came to visit us today to spread his message of tolerance and celebrating what makes us unique.

He spoke about what can bring us together and what we share in common with others such as our musical interests, as well as our cultural backgrounds.

Using kind, loving words rather than words that hurt is a CHOICE. We must pause before we speak because words do hurt. He asked all of us to think about the words we choose to use and to make sure we lift people up rather than pull people down. Think about what you say and how it could affect the person you are saying it to.

Check out this website www.1000acts.ca   and learn how others, and more importantly, you can make a difference one act of kindness at a time. This is a video Leroy shared with us about the word MICROAGRESSION. Have a look:

What is something someone has done to or for you to LIFT you up?

Reading Outdoors

We have been experiencing warmer than normal temperatures for this time of year and we decided to head outside and enjoy the company of the birds and sunshine and read!

I brought my chair outside and brought the book called “The birds in my life.”  It is about a lady who owns about 25 birds and tells a biography about all of them.

Have you ever read outside before?

What’s the best think about reading outside?

Here are some photos of us enjoying reading outdoors…

We Will Follow

How can you follow Jesus?

Well, as a class we came up with many ideas, because on Wednesday, Emma, Gabi, and Calvin led our class in a prayer service all about following Jesus.

IMG_4887 IMG_4888 IMG_4889We began with an opening prayer. After, we read two bible readings that reflected on following Jesus. We had the class do an activity where they coloured a footstep one colour and then wrote an example of how you can follow Jesus. This craft had a twist which was with whatever colour you chose (example, red) you wrote the idea using the colours first letter (example, respect).

We finished with a beautiful song and a prayer that we made. We hoped that everyone enjoyed and learned something during our prayer service.

Pumpkin carving

Pumpkin Lights

Thomas via Compfight

Have you ever carved a pumpkin turning it into a jack o lantern?  Our class has carved a pumpkin in groups and my group carved a pumpkin called Four Face.  We decided to vote who may win the pumpkin contest that our school was doing to find the best pumpkin and then Skeleton won so we entered him in.  The next day they said that Skeleton had won second place and our whole class cheered with excitement.

Here are some things to think about.

HOW CAN YOU WORK COOPERATIVELY?

HOW DO YOU DECIDE ON WHO WILL DO WHICH PARTS OF THE PUMPKIN?

IS IT YOUR BEST WORK?

Please do not forget to comment!

Tchoukball

Mrs. M from our school board came to visit our class on Monday and taught us about the competitive game of Tchoukball.

The great thing about the game is that you’re not allowed to block or get in the way of the ball. It’s a game that takes good thinking and strategy. If you can catch and throw a ball, then you can play this game!

In Tchoukball, you can score a point for your team on either Tchouck (or rebounder). In other words, there are no specific “sides” you must score on, as is the case with soccer or basketball.

Have a look at this instructional video that goes over the key rules.

Have you ever played Tchoukball before?

Making Insulating Devices in Science

The fictitious Yummy Coffee Company is looking for a coffee cup design that helps keep the heat IN the coffee cup. The students worked in teams to design a specialty coffee cup that does just that…insulate the hot liquid inside the cup.

They were being evaluated not only on their design and how well it might appeal to coffee drinkers but also in how well it did the job of keeping the liquid warm. Have a look at the designs below:

Lighting the Way with Lanterns

Lanterns may be considered an old fashioned way of lighting up the dark. Some may be lit with a flame, gas, light bulb, oil, and some are decorative. There are many different kinds of lanterns. Some can float on the water, while others float into the sky.

Why did we make lanterns you ask? We made them because they are a symbol of Jesus’ light and remind us that we are a light for others. We wanted to show that Jesus truly lights the way for us. Have a look at us making our lanterns and see our finished product!lantern-making IMG_0092 IMG_0093 IMG_0094 IMG_0095 IMG_0096

Halloween History

Halloween is celebrated on Oct 31. The word Halloween is a shortening of All Hallows’ Evening also known as Hallow e’en or All Hallows’ Eve.

Part of the history of Halloween is Halloween costumes. The practice of dressing up in costumes and going door to door for treats on holidays goes back to the Middle Ages, and includes Christmas. Trick-or-treating resembles the late medieval practice of “souling,” when poor people would go door to door on Hallowmas (November 1), receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (November 2). It originated in Ireland and Britain, although similar practices for the souls of the dead were found as far south as Italy. Shakespeare mentions the practice in his comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona (1593), when Speed accuses his master of “puling [whimpering, whining], like a beggar at Hallow mas.”
