What a Spooktacular Halloween!
Where did this idea of dressing up and celebrating Halloween come from, anyway? According to history.com,
it is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts.
Perhaps where you live in the world, you don’t celebrate Halloween. I know that my Australian and New Zealand friends don’t necessarily celebrate it, so it depends on your culture and where you live. It seems to be a mostly North American phenomenon.
Today the school was buzzing with excitement! We began our day heading to Bowlerama Royale where the students in grades 3-8 had an hour to bowl to their hearts content. The glow-in-the-dark lighting was really neat and the music was booming. We all had a great time!
In the afternoon, we had our first Reading Marathon in the dark! Students brought in their flashlights, pillows, stuffies, blankets and found their cozy spots in the classroom to set up and read. What great stamina!
The last 15 minutes of the day, we slipped into the gym to join some other classes in some dancing!
Happy Halloween!
