We Are Scientists

Today, we launched our first science unit called Habitats. We began with a nature walk in our school’s own backyard. We were paying close attention to the sounds we were hearing all around us. In addition, we were looking very closely at our surroundings, noticing the small things and big things, the colours, textures, and so on. We made sketches, wrote down observations, and asked questions.

Habitat: A habitat is a special place where a plant or animal lives.

Take a look at us in action!

    Dear Mrs. Sullivan,
I liked the nature walk. The moth on one of our shoes is sooooooo BIG!!!! It kind of freaked me out!

      Dear Reese,

We’re sorry we missed you that time! I’ll bet you could find some neat things on our school yard during recess time!

    Hi Mrs.Sullivan,
Habitat are fun to research! We get to explore where insects live. It was fun to go outside to look at insects. I saw grasshoppers and crickets outside at school!

      Dear PMD,
Habitats are so fun to research! Yes! I’ve always enjoyed exploring the habitats of the ocean creatures. We live in such a diverse world, don’t we?

      Hello JA,
I’m not sure if I have grasshoppers in my yard. We have a lot of trees and gardens so I imagine they would be hopping around. I surely have crickets as I hear them a lot. Do you know how long a grasshopper lives for? Apparently they live for about 2 months! That’s not very long!
      Love, Mrs. S
