Orange Shirt Day 2023
Each year, we honour and show that we are thinking about the indigenous children and families who were mistreated for many years through the residential school system. We want them to know they matter and their stories are being heard and talked about.
We watched this video in class and had some good discussion about why we wear orange t-shirts.
The actual day to wear orange is September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Very touching to see the kids so engaged in renewing their learning and reflecting about this important day.
Wow! Grade 3s, you all looked very orange on Orange Shirt Day. I’m so happy you joined me in recognizing that the Indigenous peoples’ stories really matter in our world. Thank you!
