Picture Day happened last week and we got to show our pearly whites. It’s a moment frozen in time, one to look back on for years to come and say “Geesh, look how _______ I looked”.
This question is for the parents…Do you have a school photo you look back at and laugh or have a story that goes with it?
Have you every shared your school photos with your own children?
Last week, we spent some time outside on a beautiful breezy morning celebrating Terry Fox’s legacy. We ran or walked around our school building in honour of Terry and to help raise funds for cancer research.
We wrote a paragraph together sharing why we agreed with the statement that Terry is a hero. We wore a sticker to show others how cancer has affected all of us. Perhaps a family member, grandparent, uncle, aunt, or family friend has battled with this disease. We pray that one day with all of the research, a cure will be found.
Go Terry Go!
Our first official art lesson focused on the abstract style of Picasso. We studied several of his paintings and noticed he enjoyed using shapes and different face perspectives when showing people.
We are still working on our finished pieces but have a look at us hard at work.
What kind of art do you most like to do? Painting? Drawing? Sculpting? Or something else?
Our interim Vice Principal, Mrs. G has been paying us frequent visits. It seems she really LOVES to spin our wheel. You see, if it lands on the orange which is in a 1 in 24 chance of that happening, she wins a prize and so does the whole class!
Every time a guest comes to our class, we try to spin the wheel. However, it was this most recent visit that Mrs. G finally landed on orange! We all cheered with excitement.
I wonder how many more times it will land on orange this year.
Way to go, Mrs. G!
In our class, we value our reading time. We are proud of our class library and really love Read Aloud time and enjoy book suggestions from one another.
We’ve learned about what makes a book “just right” for us and what the 5 Finger Rule means. We know if a book might be “too hard” for us right now, it will not always be the case. We are all learning to be stronger readers this year and are off to a great start!
We’ve made our own bookmarks and know the expectations in our class during reading time. We know what reading time looks like and sounds like and work hard to put those into practice each and every day.
What are YOU reading right now?
The first month of school is a critical one. We are establishing ourselves as a class family which involves plenty of teamwork, collaboration, idea building, learning how to disagree politely, not laughing at someone else’s expense, helping one another, laughing together, reading together, encouraging our peers, and more.
It’s starts the first day of school and we learn how to be a class family with each passing day.
Have a peek into some of the things we are doing in our class to build community.
What do you think is the most important thing when building a class family?
Hi Families!
We played this Kahoot game last week and I promised the students I’d add it to our class blog so they can play again.
Here it is if you’d like to play.
Have a great day!

Every September the 15th ish, we have Dot Day–a day where we celebrate how we can make our mark in the world. It is based on the book called The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the book. We listened to a message from the author and enjoyed hearing a song written about the book. Check it out below!
Today, we found our classmates wearing dots in their hair, on their socks, in their lunches, across their uniform, and as a special treat in our goody bags.
It was a beautiful day outside so we drew dots outside with chalk, made dot headbands, made dot art, and much more.
We delivered a special treat bag to some staff in our school including our Gym/Health teacher, Mrs. Rudy! Look at her smile!
We hope you had a DOT-tastic day!

It’s a new year so…Happy New Year! Welcome to a brand new school year. You might feel nervous, excited, worried, happy, and a whole list of other emotions and that is normal. Psssst…I have a secret to tell you. Teachers and staff can feel these things, too!
We are going to have a great school year together. I can’t wait to learn with you, teach you new things, share stories with you, explore the things we wonder about, laugh together, read together, and have fun along the way.
Here we grow!
