From the Beginning…

We have launched into our Social Studies unit on First Nations Peoples and European Explorers. In our introduction in class today, it was revealed that we certainly have some information/knowledge about First Nations peoples, but we WANT to learn so much more! We are interested in learning about palasades, what role does tobacco play in traditions, what kids of foods were eaten? and so much more.

We look forward to discovering more about the traditions, culture, and rich history of the first people to inhabit our country and will share some of it with you!

Did you know?

The name Manitoba comes from the Cree “Man-into-wahpaow”, which means “the narrows of the Great Spirit” and refers to an island in Lake Manitoba Narrows where the waves on the loose surface rocks of its north shore produce curious, bell-like wailing sounds, which the First Nations believed came from a huge drum beaten by the spirit Manitou.
