Well, it looks like we’ll be apart from each other a little longer. We may be apart physically, but DO know that I am still here–with you on this learning journey…because we are doing this together!

 

We take it one day at a time and we do our very best, considering the circumstances, right? You are surrounded by such loving people and it’s important we look for the goodness in the world–starting right in your own home. Ask yourself:

1. What am I thankful for today?
2. Where do I see helpers in the world today?
3. How can I be helpful or kind today?

I don’t know about you, but I find listening to music is really helpful in being a MOOD BOOSTER! So, put on your toe-tapping tunes and get your GROOVE on.

Language–In Google Docs, write a letter to the community of London telling them what you’re doing to get through these challenging times and how they can stay positive even when times may be tough. Use plenty of detail and remember the parts of a letter! When you’ve edited it, share it with me. Work on your letter this week and aim for next Wed. as your deadline.

If you haven’t sent me your letter telling me about how you’re doing, feeling, and so on. Please do so! So far, I’ve received Chloe’s, Romeo’s, Lola’s and Harry’s. Thank you!

Math–Thank you to those who have been sharing their photos of completed 3D robots! Keep working on that task and show me your hard work 🙂

I’ve attached some word problems to do with division. The 1st is for Gr.4, the 2nd is for Gr.3, and the last one is for both grades!  Give it a try. Finally, I’ve added 2 more Mathletics tasks for you to do. If have not yet completed previous tasks, you’ll need to do those first before I assign you more.

Art–Chalk Your Walk! Provided you have some chalk, consider writing encouraging words on the sidewalks or your driveway to be viewed by those taking a walk – and break – from being cooped up inside.

Science–It’s going to be a nice week! If you haven’t done so yet, take some photos and create a collage! Spring has sprung! What signs of spring do you see? Thanks to Nicole and Lola for theirs!

If you want to know a bit more about pirates, I’ve assigned a few books to you on Epic!

Language–Firstly, if you haven’t started journaling your daily experiences, you should! You are part of history right now. What we are living through will be talked about for generations to come. Record things like events, feelings, fears, and so on. You can write it, type it, video it, draw, interview your parents, and so on.  Do this each day for about 10 minutes.

Biography in a Bag project. OK, so we left off with choosing our person we were each going to research. Now is the time to get moving with it! While we don’t have books easily on hand, we can use Epic or the internet to gather our research.

Step 1: Read and learn all that you can about your person. Get to know them. What makes them interesting? How are they important? What do you want others to know about him/her?

Step 2: Prepare an introduction about your person. Perhaps start with a question or simply tell us WHO you are presenting about. (Don’t state your name, though). Provide a brief summary of this person and why they are important.

Step 3: Find 8-12 items to symbolize/represent the person you read about and place in a bag. Items can symbolize hobbies, accomplishments, character traits, etc.When presenting, pull out one item at a time and talk about what that item teaches us about your person.

Step 4: Wear something, a prop, or dress as your person and create a 2-3 minute presentation on your person. (For instance, if you are presenting about Walt Disney you could wear Mickey Mouse ears.)

Step 5: Email your video to Mrs. S with next Monday as the goal.

Art–A neat idea is to create Stained Glass Chalk art on a wooden fence!

Math–How did you do on your quiz? We’re nearing the end of learning the times tables. Your last 2 are the 7s and 8s. If you wish, make those flash cards to help you with practicing them. We’ll have another quiz on Friday with ALL of the numbers from 0 to the 10s mixed together.

How are your 3D robots looking? Did you get yours to stand up? What 3D shapes did you use? Share yours by taking a picture.

Division–We had a good start with division before we left for March Break. We know the connection between multiplication and division, we did plenty of practice using cubes to understand the concept of ‘sharing’, we learned about different words associated with division such as: sharing, cut up, equal groups, leftovers or remainders, quotient, and so on. We also learned some of the symbols with division.

Today, practice using Mathletics. Most of you should have 2-3 assignments.

Math/Art–First, try out the multiplication quiz in the video above. Next, let’s add studying the 6 times tables! Make those flash cards to help you study them.

Create a 3D robot out of recycling materials found in your home. Ideally, your robot should be able to stand up. This robot is what you think Roz (or ROZZUM unit 7134) looks like from our book, The Wild Robot. Be creative and snap a photo of your finished robot when done! Find out the proper math name for each shape you use. Here are some examples:

I’m happy to be connecting with many of you over the past few days. It really makes me smile to see you and hear from you.

Here are some suggestions from me today to keep the learning going.

Math–how did your 4 times tables go? If you made your flash cards for the 4 times tables–good for you! Also, if you haven’t yet, make flash cards for the 2, 3, 5, 9, and 10s. I’m going to quiz you on Friday in a video. Get ready! I’m going to be fast.

Science–go outdoors and take photos of at least 10 things you see that show signs of Spring.  Walk around the neighborhood or look in your own yard. If you have an app such as piccollage (it’s free), you can put them in the app and share it with me!

For Fun–Indoor Scavenger Hunt. Afterwards, make your own indoor OR outdoor scavenger hunt for one of your family members!

Language–listen to Mrs. Sullivan’s 2nd reading of The Wild Robot. I’d love for you to create a map of what you think the island looks like. Use any size paper you like–the regular sized paper works fine. Colour and label your map. Take a picture of your map and share it with me via email. I will post it to the blog!

Show things such as:

– where the pond is where the beaver family lives. Draw the beavers.

– where the Nest is located. Draw the Nest.

– where the robot graveyard is located and where the otters hang out

– where the cliff is where Brightbill was practicing his flying skills and where one of the bears (Thorn) almost died.

– the mountain

– the meadow in the center of the island

– any other features you wish to include (ex. a waterfall)

Lastly–As you may have seen in my videos, the yellow sticky note I’m using as a bookmark is just not great. I am looking for some new bookmarks! Would you be willing to design and make one for me? The next time I see you, I’d be so delighted to use it in my read aloud 🙂

 

Howdy Everyone! Normally, we’d be back together today after the March Break, but instead we find ourselves at home, surrounded by people who love us and who are helping keep your mind off the craziness of the world right now. Am I right? Take a deep breath–I’m right there with you and you can always say hello via video message, email, or through the blog. I’d love to hear from you!

Math—Let’s talk multiplication—are you practicing your times tables? After all, you’ve got time!

Task today: Make your own flash cards out of paper. You already know your

0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 10.   So, your first task is to make flash cards for the 4 times tables.

Start with 4 x 0, then do 4 x 1, 4 x 2, 4 x 3…all the way to the tens.

Practice every day for about 10 minutes.  On Wednesday, I’ll give you your next task.

Science—I came across this scavenger hunt that I’d love for you to try.
